SARC Announces Career Development Award

ANN ARBOR, Mich - Sarcoma Alliance through Research Collaboration (SARC) is pleased to announce a request for applications for the 2009 SARC Career Development Award.

The Career Development Award is intended to support clinician-scientists conducting research in sarcoma or related diseases.  Applicants must be no more than 5 years post subspecialty training, have a full-time faculty level or equivalent position at an academic medical institution and have available effort of 50-75% dedicated to research during the award period.  Applicants may not be supported by another career development award.

Awardees will receive a total of $100,000 per year for a total of three years.  There will be a total of 2 SARC Career Development Awards granted annually.  It is SARC’s hope that by providing stable funding through this Career Development Award, clinician-scientists will be encouraged to pursue sarcoma clinical research early in their careers.

The application will involve 2 phases.  For the first phase of the application, interested applicants should submit their current curriculum vitae and a two page letter outlining their proposed research plan and career development plan by October 1, 2008.  Details of the Career Development Award and submission instructions can be found on SARC’s website listed under the About SARC heading on a page entitled Career Development Award (or can be found at the following url: http://www.sarctrials.org/public/pag118.aspx).

SARC is a 501(c) 3 Michigan non-profit consortium that was established in 2003 by a group of sarcoma clinicians and researchers interested in collaborating to find better treatment options for patients with sarcoma.  Because of the uncommon nature of sarcoma, a collaborative approach to care is considered the gold standard for these patients.  SARC provides the infrastructure for collaboration between physicians, scientists and medical institutions around the world who are engaged in research for development of new treatments for sarcoma.
