Gene Rosenfeld is being honored as the recipient of the SARC award for his strong philanthropic commitment to SARC’s mission in research in hopes of discovering a cure for sarcoma. The cause is dear to the Rosenfeld’s heart, as Gene was himself diagnosed with Sarcoma of the bone, in December of 2005. The cancer was found after shoulder surgery that was taking too long to heal. Further diagnostic tests unfortunately revealed a malignant tumor, but after a year and half of rigorous treatment directed by one of SARC’s outstanding participating physicians, Dr. Sant Chawla, Gene is now cancer-free.
Gene and his wife, Maxine are the parents of two sons, Michael and Dennis and proud grandparents to five grandchildren. In addition, both individuals work with numerous boards of health, arts, and academic organizations, with particular focus on the boards, schools, and foundations of UCLA. From this institution, Gene received his Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1956. Additionally in 2003, Gene was given the John E. Anderson Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Gene is on a personal mission to help find a cure for sarcoma. SARC is honored to recognize him as 2007’s Friend of SARC and privileged that he has chosen SARC as the organization to help in his quest to eliminate sarcoma.
