Clinical Trial Team

Principle Investigator (PI): The principle investigator, typically a doctor, is responsible for the design, development and conduct of a clinical trial.  He or she evaluates incoming data and helps other participating doctors manage the trial.

Research Nurse:  The research nurse  coordinates patient care during the clinical trial.  He or she will teach you about the details of your participation in the clinical trial; help see that the trial's plan outlined bu the clinical trial is accurately implemented; advise the patient about side effects; and help manage and organize the clinical trial’s data.  The research nurse is a helpful resource to answer questions or concerns during the course of a trial

Clinical Nurse: The clinic nurse coordinates and provides care for patients, often regardless of whether they are actively participating in a clinical trial.  He or she will meet with you during your doctor visits, so they may very well be the person administering the trial’s treatment or medication.  Because the clinical nurse is a part of your health care team, they can help to answer patient questions.

Research Project Manager: The research project manager has the responsibility for oversight of the design and conduct of a clinical study from beginning to end.  The overall goal of the project manager is to assure that all aspects of a clinical trial are conducted according to all government regulations, in a timely and fiscally responsible fashion.  They help in the coordination of protocol development, work with academic, institutional or external IRB’s, and is are responsible for the oversight of legal contracting with participating sites and subcontractors.
