Our Sarcoma Glossary is a list of subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma and bone sarcoma, including general information about each. Both were written by a physician with extensive experience in treating patients with sarcoma, who also happens to be a founder of our organization, Robert Maki, MD PhD.
Dr. Maki is a medical oncologist and Co-Leader of the Adult Sarcoma Disease Management Team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. He has a special interest in new therapies for the treatment of soft-tissue and bone sarcomas. His attention is focused on new drugs to treat metastatic disease. In particular, he and his group are investigating new drugs to attack novel molecular targets for this rare and varied group of well over 50 types of cancer that arises from connective tissues, collaborating extensively with other oncologists who are interested in this rare group of diseases. He is also engaged in research to develop vaccines and other forms of immunological therapy against sarcomas to "teach" the immune system to attack tumor cells but not normal cells.
