SARC History

Existing research and clinical trial structures such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), while effective in the management of more common cancers, have not achieved the necessary multidisciplinary level of collaboration required to achieve the desired outcome for sarcoma patients. A core group of medical and pediatric oncologists, all members of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), recognized this critical need for additional medical research and information concerning every aspect of this disease.

SARC (Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration), was formed in 2003 by sarcoma specialists at five major medical facilities to alter these circumstances by facilitating the more effective completion of additional clinical trials. SARC has engaged additional key individuals from across the country in the medical community specializing in oncology, to join together for a single research initiative, leading to the discovery of prevention methods and a cure for sarcoma.
